    Dead Card
  • A card that is not legally playable.

    Dead Hand
  • A hand that can no longer be legally played.

    Dead Man's Hand
  • Two pair - Aces and Eights. According to a legend, Wild Bill Hickok was shot during a poker game in Deadwood, South Dakota, and that the hand he held was two pair, black aces and black eights.

    Dead Money
  • Chips in the pot that belong to a player no longer in the hand. For example, a player bets before the flop, then later folds. This chips he put in the pot are dead money.

    Deal
  • To give each player cards, or put cards on the board. A deal refers to the entire process from the shuffling and dealing of cards until the pot is awarded to the winner.

    Deal Me In
  • Request to be dealt cards during a temporary absence, or at the beginning of a session.

    Deal Me Out
  • Notifying the dealer that a player is absenting himself from a game for at least one hand. The player's spot is kept until he returns, but no cards are dealt to the player.

    Dealer
  • The person who handles the cards, gives out the pots, and monitors the game.

    Dealer's Choice
  • In home games, a rule that permits the dealer to name which poker game to be played that hand.

    Dealer's Position
  • Being the last to act in a betting round. On the button.

    Deck
  • A set of playing-cards. Typically 52 cards, but sometimes including the 2 jokers.

    Deuces
  • A pair of twos.

    Discard
  • In a draw game, to throw cards out of your hand to make room for replacements, or the card(s) thrown away; the muck.

    Dog
  • Abbreviation for underdog.

    Dolly Parton
  • A straight 9-5 (Nine to five).

    Dominated
  • Hands considered okay to play, but tend to lose against similar non-straight/flush hands. For example, A-2 is typically dominated by any other hand with an A in it. Q-10 is often dominated by A-Q or A-10.

    Door Card
  • This is the first face up card in a player's hand in stud games.

    Double Up
  • Going all in on a hand during a no-limit game and winning, which essentially doubles your chips at the table.

    Down and Dirty
  • The final hole card dealt in seven-card stud.

    Down Card
  • Hole cards. Cards that are dealt face down.

    Doyle Brunson
  • It's a Holdem hand consisting of a 10-2. Doyle Brunson won the world championship two years in a row on the final hand with these cards.

    Draw
  • 1)The receiving of cards.
  • 2)"On a draw." Trying to improve a hand towards a flush, straight, or better.

    Draw Card
  • The card that one has received on the draw.

    Draw Out
  • To improve your hand so that it beats an opponent who had a better hand than yours prior to your draw.

    Draw Poker
  • Form of poker where each player is dealt five cards down with the option of discarding one or more and replacing them with new ones to attempt to make a better hand.

    Drawing Dead
  • A drawing hand that will lose even if it improves.

    Drawing Hand
  • A hand that needs improvement to win. Usually to a straight or flush.

    Driver's Seat
  • A player in the "Driving Seat" is the one taking the initiative in all the betting. This player is representing a strong hand.

    Drop
  • Fold.

    Ducks
