    Sandbagging
  • Holding back and calling despite the fact that you have a very good hand, usually to disguise strength, provoke bluffs, and to check-raise.

    Satellite
  • It is a mini-tournament to gain an entry into a larger tournament.

    Scare Card
  • A card that appears on the board which may well turn an opponent's hand into the winner.

    See
  • To call.

    Semi-Bluff
  • Bluffing with a drawing hand that has a good chance of improving to the best hand.

    Set
  • Three of a kind, where having a pocket pair that matches one of the cards on the board.

    Seven-card Stud
  • A well-known poker game in which players get three down cards and four up cards. You play the best five of those seven cards.

    Seventh Street
  • This is the final round of betting in Seven Card Stud.

    Shark
  • A good/crafty player often posing as a fish early in the game.

    Shootout
  • A tournament with no rebuys. Also called a Freeze Out.

    Short Stack
  • The player with the smallest amount of chip at the table.

    Showdown
  • At the end of the final betting round, all active players turn their cards face-up to see who has won the pot.

    Shuffle
  • The act of mixing the deck of cards before a hand.

    Side Bet
  • Any bet made outside the main pot.

    Side Pot
  • Separate pot(s) which is contested by remaining active players when one or more players are all-in.

    Sit and Go
  • A single table tournament with no rebuys. Abbreviated as "SNG".

    Sitting Out
  • This is when you choose to leave a table for a few hands, but wish your spot to be kept.

    Sixth Street
  • In Seven-card Stud, this is the fourth "up" card dealt to the player (their 6th card). It is also the 4th round of betting.

    Slow Play
  • Holding back and calling despite the fact that you have a very good hand, usually to disguise strength, provoke bluffs, and to check-raise.

    Small Blind
  • The amount put in the pot by the person immediately to the left of the dealer "button" prior to the cards being dealt. This is usually a half or third of a bet.

    Smooth Call
  • Making a call with a hand worthy of a raise in order to mislead opponents.

    SNG
  • Sit and Go.

    Solid
  • A fairly tight player (and reasonably good).

    Speed Limit
  • A pair of fives.

    Split Pot
  • A pot which is shared by two or more players because they have equivalent hands.

    Spread Limit
  • A betting structure in which a player may bet any amount in a range on every betting round. A typical spread limit structure is $2-$6, where a player may bet as little as $2 or as much as $6 on every betting round.

    Stack
  • A pile of chips.

    Stand Pat
  • Not drawing any cards in a draw game.

    Steal the Blinds
  • To win a small pot consisiting of only blinds by betting a weak hand and having other players fold.

    Steal the Pot
  • Raising in expectation that all other players will fold.

    Straight
  • Five consecutive cards of any suit.

    Straight Flush
  • Five consecutive cards of the same suit.

    String Bet
  • A bet (more typically a raise) in which a player doesn't get all the chips required for the raise into the pot in one motion. Unless he verbally declared the raise, he can be forced to withdraw it and just call. This prevents the unethical play of putting out enough chips to call, seeing what effect that had, and then possibly raising.

    Strip Poker
  • The game of poker which is based on removing clothes. It can be played online and at home. The game is five card draw. Every time one wins or loses a certain amount, there is an opportunity to remove an article of your opponent's clothing.

    Structure
  • The limits put on the blinds/ante, bets, and raises in any particular game.

    Stud Games
  • Games in which players get down cards and up cards.

    Suicide King
  • King of Hearts. So named because in the drawing the king appears to be stabbing himself in the head.

    Suit
  • A characteristic of a playing card. The card being either of Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, or Spades.

    Suited Connectors
  • Two cards that are consecutive in rank and of the same suit.
